Seahouses are the ten fastest growing destinations for people booking vacations this spring

A coastal village in Northumberland was named one of the UK’s fastest growing domestic destinations this spring.

TripAdvisor’s first 2023 Travel Index combines demand and sentiment data and aims to reveal how Brits are approaching travel and the destinations they are heading to in the next three months. A significant proportion of people are hitting the Northumberland coast, with West Howth named as one of the fastest growing destinations, with nine out of ten located in the north of England.

Located in the Northumberland Coast AONB, Seahouses is the gateway to the Farne Islands, with boat trips from the town’s harbor to explore the wildlife on the rugged island just a few miles off the coast. It is also considered to have one of the best fish and chip stores in the country, while the UK’s most popular seaside villages of Bamburgh and Beadnell are located within walking distance to the north and south respectively.

Jane Dixon, who runs Ranger Jane’s Beach School in Seahouses and was nominated for a VisitEngland Tourism Superstar Award for her seaside adventures, has been holidaying in the area since she was 15 before She moved to the village in 2010. The outdoor lifestyle is the best thing she’s ever done.

With travel abroad restricted during the pandemic, the new staycation has spread the word that Seahouses Village is really great and you can find peace and quiet with a walk on the beach, a pub lunch or a game of arcade games,” said Jane.

“From Easter to Halloween, my husband sails for Bill Shields’ boat and I still go out with him every chance I get. We have amazing local empty beaches, quality take-out fish and chips, top-notch seafood from local suppliers and everyone at the local pub is welcome, including residents, visitors and their dogs.

“Local outdoor activities on offer include kitesurfing, paddle boarding, local surf lessons, beach yoga and local accommodation, camping, luxury camping, caravan sites, glamping pods and even designer cabins and boutique hotels in the woods are great.”
